Auditions - Singin' In The Rain

About the show:

TAP is delighted to finally present Singin’ in the Rain in the Spring of 2023. Originally announced for the 20/21 season, the show has been postponed twice due to the Covid-19 pandemic but has retained the artistic leadership committed to bringing Arlington audiences the quality show they expect and deserve.

The “Greatest Movie Musical of All Time” is faithfully and lovingly adapted for the stage by Broadway legends, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, from their original award-winning screenplay. Each unforgettable scene, song and dance is accounted for, including the show-stopping title number, complete with an onstage rainstorm! Hilarious situations, snappy dialogue and a hit-parade score of Hollywood standards makes for the perfect evening of entertainment for any fan of the golden age of movie musicals.

Award winning Director/Choreographer John Monnett returns to TAP to lead his 10th musical following Nice Work If You Can Get It, The Wedding Singer, 9 to 5: the Musical, 42nd Street, Sweet Smell of Success, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Fiddler on the Roof, Guys & Dolls, and Kiss Me, Kate. Music Director Blakeman Brophy previously wielded his baton at TAP for Pippin and Little Shop of Horrors, as elsewhere for A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, Heathers: The Musical, and Amour. They are joined by Producers Laura Gouge and Sandy Kozel, and Stage Manager Terri Carnahan.

Performers interested in brushing off their jazz/tap dance skills can attend a workshop with choreographer Monnett at BalletNova Center for Dance later this month. There will be three sessions that will build cumulatively over three weeks. Sign up for all three, or individual sessions as space is available. All levels welcome – whether you need to tune up your jazz/tap skills or want to learn how to fake your way through the audition. Bring your own umbrella.

A comprehensive list of audition information and the audition form can be found on the downloadable audition form.

Auditionees will be asked to present a prepared song. Accompanist will be provided. We may cut you off after 16-32 bars, not as a judgment, rather we have heard what we need and need to move things along. Next, you will learn a short dance combination (everyone will be given approximately the same amount of time to learn the combination). Then you will perform it for the production team.

All who audition will be expected to do the dance audition; everyone will dance to some degree in the show.
